The Brickell skyline has a stunning new culinary anchor. The Mexican, an internationally acclaimed fine-dining concept that marries architectural brilliance with the soul of Northern Mexican cuisine, officially opened its doors at 601 Brickell Key Drive on April 9.

Arriving with significant prestige, the brand’s Dallas flagship was previously honored by UNESCO’s Prix Versailles as one of the "World’s Most Beautiful Restaurants." Now, owner and Monterrey-born entrepreneur Roberto González Alcalá has brought that same award-winning DNA to the Miami waterfront, creating a space that feels less like a traditional eatery and more like a high-design sanctuary.

Design Meets the Bay

Spanning an impressive 10,000 square feet, the restaurant was conceptualized by world-renowned interior architect Paulina Morán. The aesthetic is a masterclass in "contemporary heritage"—think hand-painted tilework, sculptural lighting installations, and warm, organic textures that mirror the natural beauty of the surrounding Biscayne Bay.

Upon entering, guests are ushered through a golden archway into a dramatic tequila gallery, where a curated collection of premium spirits sits beneath an intricate woven ceiling. The layout flows seamlessly from a vibrant central bar to an expansive main dining room, while the outdoor terraces offer some of the most coveted waterfront views in Brickell and Brickell Key.

A Culinary Tribute to Northern Mexico

While the design is breathtaking, the heartbeat of The Mexican is found in the kitchen. Under the leadership of Chef Santiago Hiriarte, the menu focuses on the bold, sophisticated flavors of Northern Mexico, executed with the precision of modern fine dining.

Brickell locals can expect a menu that balances signature favorites with Miami-exclusive creations:

  • The Signature Starters: Don’t miss the Lobster Elote, which elevates street corn with succulent Maine lobster and Oaxacan cheese, or the earthy Roasted Cauliflower accented with truffle and habanero ash.
  • Northern Traditions: The Barbacoa de Arrachera—a slow-cooked, tender skirt steak—pays homage to Monterrey roots, while the Filet and Bone Marrow Tacos offer a rich, decadent bite.
  • Miami Exclusives: The Tuna Tomahawk was designed specifically for the South Florida palate, highlighting fresh, coastal ingredients.

Elevated Spirits & Hospitality

The bar program is equally intentional, boasting an exhaustive list of tequilas and mezcals. Signature cocktails like the hibiscus-infused Mujeres Divinas and the ginger-brightened La Niña Fresa provide the perfect accompaniment to the salt air on the terrace. For the connoisseur, the "Reserve" selections—like the Zapata and Pancho Villa—feature some of the finest spirits available in the city.

Ultimately, The Mexican aims to redefine "luxury" through the lens of genuine hospitality. In a city often known for fast-paced service, this Brickell Key newcomer invites guests to linger, savoring the pacing of a meal that honors the Mexican tradition of shared celebration.
